Jill Stuart Fall/Winter 2008 Makeup Collection

Let's take a look of Jill Stuart fall/winter 2008 Illuminance Collection. This collection will be launched in Japan on August 1, 2008. I will post additional updates to the post as I have more information and product images.

Illuminance Eyes palette: 5 new color variations (except one is limited-edition)

Limited-edition Mix Blush Compact: 2 variations

Lip Luster: 3 new shades

Nail Lacquer N: 5 new shades

Paul & Joe: New Base Makeup

Paul & Joe will launch new foundation makeup and new shades of Face Color this fall. The launches include Creamy Powder Compact Foundation, Moisturizing Foundation Primer and Face Color.

Here is a sneak peek of these products that will be launched on September 5, 2008 in Japan:

Creamy Powder Compact Foundation: SPF 15 PA+ 6 shades

Moisturizing Foundation Primer: SPF 12 PA+ 3 shades

Face Color: 3 variations

Paul & Joe is well-known for its quality base makeup line. It is all about miniaturization for Paul & Joe's base makeup. They always create moisturizing base makeup products (primers, foundations, concealers and face powders) that aim to achieve fresh-looking skin full of moisture and radiance.

Here is a look at the range of Paul & Joe's base makeup:

Paul & Joe Base Makeup Line

The upcoming Moisturizing Foundation Primer and Creamy Powder Compact Foundation seem to provide similar color range and makeup result with the existing Foundation Primer N and Creamy Compact Foundation. At the moment, I am not sure about the differences between them or if the existing ones will be replaced by the new items. I will keep an eye on the launches and keep you posted.

Product Review: L'Oréal Skin Genesis

I have sampled the Daily Treatment Serum Concentrate and Daily Moisturizer Oil-Free Lotion from L'Oréal Skin Genesis. Skin Genesis is a new generation of skincare for healthy, younger-looking skin.

L'Oréal Research has developed patented Pro-Xylane™ extracted from the beech wood plant. Pro-Xylane™ is a naturally-derived molecule that can penetrate the skin's surface layers. Combined with Hyaluronic Acid, the complex strengthens the cells, reignites cell activity, and maintain the strength of the skin layer by layer for smooth-textured and even-toned skin.

Daily Treatment Serum Concentrate
Daily Treatment Serum Concentrate is my favorite of these two products. The crystal clear Serum Concentrate has a gel texture and a light floral scent. It is lightweight and non-greasy. After gently applying it over the face, I can feel the serum is absorbed into the skin quickly. What I love about it is it leaves the face a thoroughly clean feeling and residue free.

Daily Moisturizer Oil-Free Lotion
Daily Moisturizer Oil-free Lotion has a moisturizer consistency. It is kept the same slight floral fragrance with the Serum Concentrate. The lotion contains micro-shimmer. The shimmer gives the complexion a subtle glow instantly. Even though this lotion is supposedly oil-free, in the warm weather like the summer, it stills feel slightly oily on my face.

I am not impressed with the application of the lotion. Although the lotion has a light texture, it does not offer a smooth massage. It is easier to smooth over the skin softly with small circular movements. Giving the face a massage with bigger circular motions, however, generates little tiny flakes. I have to give up using it at daytime, otherwise the foundation cannot go on well on top of the lotion.

Result
After using L'Oréal Skin Genesis Daily Treatment Serum Concentrate and Daily Moisturizer Oil-Free Lotion for a month, I found my face feels softer and tighter. It does even skin's tone, and deliver a healthy-looking radiance. The fine lines have been slightly reduced, but not dramatically. For dry skin like mine, Daily Moisturizer Oil-Free Lotion delivers adequate moisture in the summer time, but it probably wouldn't provide enough moisture in the winter.

The Buzz: Upcoming New Mascaras

Summer is here not long ago and we are already expecting a lot new products coming up this fall. There are a few highly anticipated mascaras going to hit the market this fall. Here is a quick glance on what's coming.

Estée Lauder TurboLash All Effects Motion Mascara

In July, Estée Lauder will release TurboLash All Effects Motion Mascara, which features a battery-operated vibrating brush that vibrates at 125 micropulses per second. It is claimed to provide length, volume and curl, and separate lashes from clumping. Retailing for around US$30, it will be launched exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue on July 17, 2008, and will roll out nationwide in the US later this year.

Lancôme Ôscillation mascara

Lancôme will launch Ôscillation mascara, which is a battery-powered vibrating mascara that provides 7,000 micro-oscillations per minute. Designed by the creator of mascara brushes for Lancôme, Jean-Louis Guéret, the vibrating mascara has a polymer-based formula and is said to provide a 360-degree coverage around each lash.

Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes Mascara

For Givenchy, the brand will release a new mascara called Phenomen’Eyes mascara in August, 2008. Created by Givenchy Le Makeup's artistic director Nicolas Degennes, Phenomen’Eyes mascara features a spherical brush to reach every single lash from all sides. This mascara is formulated with elastomer to help an easier gliding application. The formula is also created from water and polymer to coat, lengthen and separate the lashes. Phenomen’Eyes mascara will be available in black and brown.

Will the battery-powered vibrating mascaras aid shaping lashes and separate lashes to prevent clumping effectively? Could it be a hit like the battery-powered toothbrush? I am still very skeptical about this gadget if it could replace skillful and manual application of mascara. It is definitely interesting to try out these buzzing mascaras. Personally, however, I am more interested to check out Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes Mascara when it hits the shelves in the US.

Product Review: Corioliss Pro Black Flat Iron

I love my hair long and curly. I always try to get my hair permed from time to time. As you know, permed hair loses its curliness over a period of time and salon perm is not inexpensive. So, I always long for a efficient way to create relaxed wavy hair with a curling iron or a flat iron. I had the pleasure to review this cool little Corioliss Pro Black Flat Iron. This flat iron is designed to straighten, flip or curl the hair.

Corioliss Pro Ceramic Flat Iron

Easy Application
Corioliss Pro Black Flat Iron has a floating plate design with a slim black handle. It has a lightweight design that makes it easy to hold. Its 1 inch wide plate works ideally for short to medium length hair. According to the product description on the website, it heats up in less than 6 seconds. I found it does live up to its claim. It heats up efficiently and helps me save time when I need to style the hair for a quick fix. I found there is a burning smell when I plug in this flat iron. Although nothing burns and it doesn't leave the hair smell, the burning smell does linger in the bathroom for a few hours. I was very concerned about the burning smell but didn't get a chance to have a replacement. However, I haven't found any similar case from other reviews. I hope this is the only case.

Technology-advanced Features
Corioliss Pro Black Flat Iron features tourmaline and nano silver treated ceramic plates. The ceramic plates are coated with tourmaline, which is a sort of precious
crystal silicate mineral. The tourmaline treated ceramic plates generate negative ions and hair-healthy far infrared heat, which help lock in moisture, preserve and repair hair structure.

Close-up of Corioliss Pro Ceramic Flat Iron

Heat Control

The flat iron features an on/off switch. It can reach an optimum temperature of 410°F, and the temperature will remain constant throughout use.

Result
The flat iron allows me to straighten or curl the hair my hair effectively. It doesn't dry or damage the hair. Thanks to the technology of negative ions and far infrared, it leaves my hair shiny and smooth through out the day.

Summary
Overall, Corioliss Pro Black Flat Iron is a good styling tool. It provides an easy application and good control. It styles the hair without causing damaged or burned hair, leaving the hair shiny and smooth. Corioliss Pro Black Flat Iron is available at Misikko. For different hair types and hair lengths, there are other models of Corioliss flat irons and other types of flat irons to choose from at Misikko.

Product Review: The SPF 18 Fluid Tint from La Mer

La Mer is definitely not unknown to all of you. It is always known for its high quality (with a high price tag) skincare. This is a review about The SPF 18 Fluid Tint from La Mer. The SPF 18 Fluid Tint combines La Mer's skincare with UVA/UVB protection and tint. It is available in three shades: Light, Medium and Dark.
La Mer The SPF 18 Fluid Tint

Texture

The SPF 18 Fluid Tint has a water-based formula. It is easy to apply and quickly being absorbed. The texture is light and moist, making it quite buildable. With layers of application, it doesn't leave my face sticky, heavy nor powdery.

Shade
The Fluid Tint features three shades in Light, Medium and Dark. The ones I have tried are Light and Medium. I have a fairly light skin. The Light shade is slightly lighter than my skin tone. The shade in Medium is about two tones darker than my complexion. The color selection actually works for my complexion. In summer, my complexion is usually darker compare to the winter (all the uninvited tanning :-( ). I would mix the Light shade with the Medium shade to match my complexion.

Coverage
The Fluid Tint is essentially a tinted moisturizer. The great advantage about tinted moisturizer is it provides a natural-looking "no-makeup" look. Compared to other tinted moisturizers I have used, LaMer The SPF 18 Fluid Tint is more hydrating in texture. It provides a very sheer coverage. Since it is a tinted moisturizer, however, it doesn't work like a foundation to cover the redness, pores, freckles or blemishes. But, I am not expecting that from a tinted moisturizer. It works great for me when I just want something with sun protection that feels lightweight and "breathable" on the skin. If I need more coverage, I would couple this Fluid Tint with foundation and concealer to cover the problem areas and blemishes.

Finish
The Fluid Tint imparts a luminous finish. It reduces the sun damage by using hollow photonic spheres to divert light waves while creating a light effect that appears more glowing. It brightens up the complexion evenly with a radiance.

As the weather gets warmer, my T zone is prone to getting oily. It can look overly shiny when the luminous finish is messed with oils and sweat. I would set with a dusting of matte loose powder to control the shine. So it leaves the complexion with a youthful luminous skin. For oily skin type, I would also suggest to finish the look with some loose powder after the Fluid Tint to prevent over-shine.

Lasting Power
This product has a fairly good lasting power. Through out the day of wear, my face feels moisturized and smooth without turning powdery or cakey.

Skincare Attribute
The SPF 18 Fluid Tint has Tourmaline and Brazilian Malachite gemstones that can capture light energy and re-emit it as beneficial green light to enhance the anti-oxidant effect on the skin. Seaweeds formulated in the Fluid Tint offer humectant properties to attract and bind moisture to the skin. They prevent dehydration by providing emolliency to the skin.

Summary
Overall, I think The SPF 18 Fluid Tint from La Mer is a good year-round tinted moisturizer. It has a light, moisturized texture, making it present a sheer and moist coverage. It gives a natural-looking finish and imparts a luminous radiance to the complexion. If you prefer not to wear foundation or if your skin needs little coverage, this Fluid Tint freshes up your look. I found La Mer The SPF 18 Fluid Tint is moist enough to work like a primer before the application of foundation. While it adds luminosity and moisture to the skin, it also ensures a long-lasting makeup result.
